# Evidence Discipline

**Purpose of this page:** The core rule of evidence-based ABM: *if a statement is not
labeled, it is not trustworthy.* Unlabeled claims are the primary way fake precision enters
account research — and hallucinated "personalization" is the failure mode that burned the
outbound-bot category. Apply these systems to everything you produce for a founder.

## Two labeling systems (deliberately different)

**Buyer side — Fact / Hypothesis / Implication.** For everything about a target account:

| Label | Definition | Notation |
|---|---|---|
| **Fact** | Verifiable from a public or first-party source | `[Fact: source, date]` |
| **Hypothesis** | Inferred from evidence, with stated confidence | `[Hypothesis: evidence, confidence 0.7]` |
| **Implication** | Derived from facts/hypotheses for downstream use | `[Implication: from hypothesis X]` |

**Seller side — Confirmed / Extracted / Inferred.** For everything about the founder's own
company: `[C]` the founder explicitly validated it · `[E]` taken from official materials,
needs confirmation · `[I]` synthesized, must be validated before use. The systems differ on
purpose: the founder is the authority on their own truth, so the question is whether they
*validated* it — for buyers, the question is whether it is *true*.

## The 4-tier evidence scale

Every buyer-side claim gets a tier — and every tier states what it **cannot** support:

| Tier | Basis | Cannot support |
|---|---|---|
| **T1** | 3+ independent confirmations | — (only tier with no restriction) |
| **T2** | One solid source | Definitive buying-stage, budget or timeline claims |
| **T3** | Inference from partial evidence | Budget approval, timelines, buying-committee composition |
| **T4** | Weak or indirect signal | Any recommendation on its own |

## Claim-support floors

Bind action types to minimum evidence — never act below the floor:

| Action | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Recommend immediate outreach | T1 + 3 sources |
| Assign an account state | T2 + 2 sources |
| Generate a hypothesis | T3 + 1 source |
| Put on a watch list | T4 + 1 source |

## Required negative space

Honest research names what is missing. These fields are mandatory, not optional:

- **`cannot_support`** on every evidence tier assignment.
- **Where the seller loses** and **who the product is not for** — a competitive section that
only shows wins will break against real buyer objections.
- **Critical unknowns** (3–5 per account) and **dangerous assumptions**, each with the risk
and what breaks if the assumption is wrong.

## Practical rules for agents

1. Label every claim as you produce it, not in a cleanup pass.
2. State confidence numerically on hypotheses (0–1). Below 0.6, flag for human review
   rather than acting.
3. Marketing collateral (the target's or anyone's) is not automatically trustworthy — it may
be aspirational, outdated, or strategically exaggerated. Tier accordingly.
4. An email open proves deliverability, never interest. Do not upgrade evidence tiers based
   on opens.
5. When evidence does not meet a floor: say so, name the gap, and propose the cheapest
gap-closing move — do not soften the standard to proceed.
