The Account Packet
Purpose of this page: When a founder asks you to “research account X” or “write outreach for account X”, do not produce a company profile or jump straight to copy. Build an Account Packet: a structured intelligence object that models the account as a decision environment. Every asset for that account then draws on the same packet — consistent, auditable, reusable.
An Account Packet is not: a company dossier, a notes dump, a copy brief, or a sales strategy memo. It is the evidence layer those things should be derived from.
The 10 sections
| # | Section | Job | Dominant label |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Company Snapshot | Name, category, size indicators, geography, complexity markers, dated recent context | Fact |
| 2 | Strategic Context | Growth trajectory, stated priorities (cited), inferred priorities (with confidence), timing triggers, theme classification | Fact + Hypothesis |
| 3 | Stakeholder Map | Economic buyer, likely champion, operator lead, technical gatekeeper, procurement/legal/security, executive sponsor, single-thread risk | Hypothesis |
| 4 | Problem Hypothesis Map — the core | Which problems this account plausibly has that the seller can address — each with evidence basis and confidence | Hypothesis |
| 5 | Current-State Hypothesis | How they likely handle the problem today: tools, workflows, degree of automation | Hypothesis |
| 6 | Objection / Risk Map | Why they would say no; perceived risks of switching; likely sources of skepticism | Hypothesis |
| 7 | Decision-Motion Hypothesis | How this account likely buys: committee size, cycle, procurement dynamics | Hypothesis |
| 8 | Proof-Mapping Layer | Which of the seller’s proof points map to which of this account’s problems and objections | Implication |
| 9 | Asset Implications | What the evidence implies for asset choice, angle, and channel | Implication |
| 10 | Confidence + Unknowns | 3–5 critical unknowns and dangerous assumptions — each with risk and what breaks | Meta |
Design rules
- Every field is labeled Fact, Hypothesis, or Implication — see Evidence Discipline. No unlabeled claims, ever.
- Hypotheses carry an evidence basis and a numeric confidence. “They probably care about X” without both is not admissible.
- The Problem Hypothesis Map is the core. If you can only do one section well, do section 4 — everything persuasive derives from it.
- Section 10 is mandatory. A packet that admits no unknowns is a red flag, not a strong packet.
- The packet is stable per account; assets are per moment. Update the packet on new evidence (funding, leadership change, public statements), not per asset.
Minimal viable packet (when time is short)
Sections 1, 2, 4, and 10 — snapshot, strategic context, problem hypotheses, and honest unknowns. Never skip the labels or the unknowns; skip depth instead.
